Our Farm
Before I ever design a bouquet, I grow it.
Long before the first consultation, the flowers have already begun their journey. Tiny seeds are planted, watched over, harvested at just the right moment, and carefully conditioned before they ever become part of a wedding.
That's the difference when you work with a farmer florist. The hands that grow the flowers are the same hands that design them. Because of that, every wedding reflects the season it happens in unlike weddings where flowers are flown halfway across the world. Farm fresh wedding flowers are rooted in nature, connected to the place they are grown and impossible to mimic.
I wouldn’t want it any other way.
Every Wedding Begins in the Field
The Best Flowers Aren't Always Planned
Moonlight Blooms didn’t begin as a business plan on the back of a napkin. It began from a handful of flower seeds planted during one of the hardest seasons of my life.
The flower beds were one of the only places I could quiet my mind. The flowers needed to be harvested and the weeds needed to be pulled. I loved that the soil rewarded my curiosity and patience throughout each season.
Somewhere along the way, growing flowers stopped feeling like an escape and became my lifeblood. I wasn’t just growing flowers, I was growing the life I needed.
Before flowers, I spent my career in the wine industry working with yeast, bacteria, and enzymes to solve microbiological problems and help wineries make better wine.
I loved every minute of it.
Then my life took a turn when we had our kids. Raising a family wasn’t like I imagined it to be, and I had to leave behind the career I had worked so hard to build. I have no regrets. Life just took a turn and I turned with it.
Today, I still approach farming the same way I approached science.
I'm constantly experimenting with flower varieties, paying attention to the soil, learning from every season, and asking, "How can I grow this better next year?"
I am still a scientist. I just found a different laboratory.
A Scientist at Heart
I probably shouldn't be surprised that flowers found me.
I grew up in rural Lake County, packing pears in the summer, raising sheep in 4-H, and spending more time with dirt under my nails than most of my friends.
My dad used to tell me, "All you want to do is be in production." For years I had no idea what he meant but for some reason it stuck in my head. I get it now.
Whether I was making baby dresses, solving problems in wineries, or growing thousands of flowers, I've always been happiest creating something with my own hands.
Maybe he knew me better than I knew myself.
I've Always Belonged Outside
People sometimes assume weddings are about bouquets and centerpieces.
To me they're about people. Not just the couple but the families meeting for the first time, friends who haven’t seen each other in years and parents trying hard not to cry. I love how a field of my flowers becomes part of the most meaningful days in someone’s life.
I will never take that privilege for granted.
Why Weddings?
I don't believe every wedding should look the same. After all, nature certainly doesn’t.
Every season brings different colors, textures, and flowers. I think weddings are more beautiful when they embrace that instead of fighting it.
I won't promise the exact same flowers you've seen in someone else's wedding or on your Pinterest because your wedding deserves to have its own story. You are an original and your wedding flowers should be too.
Instead, I'll listen carefully to what you love, walk the fields, and design with the best that nature is offering at the moment of your wedding. The result is always flowers that couldn't have happened on any other weekend, in any other season, or for any other couple.
That's the beauty of flowers that begin in the field.
Flowers That Could Only Exist Here
More Than Weddings
Growing flowers has taught me that beauty matters in ordinary moments, too. That's why each season we share bouquets with local hospice patients through our Flower Friday program.
We believe flowers aren't only for life's biggest celebrations. Sometimes they bring the most comfort during life's quietest moments.
My husband, Gordon, has wanted this dream for me from the very beginning. He's hauled buckets, packed vehicles, solved problems, celebrated victories, weathered disappointments, and supported more crazy flower ideas than either of us could count.
Moonlight Blooms may have my name on the website, but it has always been built with the encouragement of family, friends, and the wonderful people who show up to help with Flower Friday.
I can’t thank them all enough.
It Takes a Village
